S&S05 15mm Stone-walled / slate-roofed Stables Block.
Based on the "herring-bone" gable typical of western Scotland.
This model represents a generic stone built, slate-roofed stable block of a style commonly seen throughout Scotland during the last 3-4 centuries, and in British colonies, both during the Age of Exploration and during the "Height of Empire" period. It would also not be out of place in ancient civilisations such as Roman towns and villas in NW Europe.
* For Jacobite & 20th Century scenarios, it makes an excellent general purpose addition to any town or rural house.
* For Age of Exploration / Pirate scenarios, use it for wealthier citizens such as merchants or clergy, or as part of a tavern or inn's yard.
* For British Colonial theatres, use it with a farm bungalow, or harbour-side cottage.
It has been designed to remain reasonably generic so that it can be used for a wide range of periods and theatres. The windows have frames, and the doors have half-height stable-gates in framed doorways.

The model has been designed for modellers to use their imagination, and modify to create variety.
Example projects could be -
* Provide the model with a walled base and "garden".
* Add a lean-to hay-store, or fix cart-wheels to the walls.
* Add water-troughs and mounting steps to the sides of the walls.
* Create a matching barn or animal shed (see our Flat Roof Block / Stone series for ready made animal sheds).
and many other personalised modifications that would allow more than one of these to appear different to each other, creating variety on the table top.
Painting the model in a grey "stone" finish makes it suitable for mountainous areas and NW Europe (e.g. Scotland).
Painting it in sandy "adobe" finish converts it to sandstone for lowland areas.
These photos show the unbased style of the unpainted model supplied. Xyston 18mm (1:100) hoplite used for scale (not included). |
