S&S01 15mm Towerless Chapel, Kirk, Church in Saxon / Norman / Scots style.
Stone-walled / slate-roofed small chapel / kirk without tower based on buildings seen on Scotland's west coast, and on the 1300AD St. Cuthbert's Chapel on the northeast English island of Inner Farne.
Suitable for use with late Dark Ages to present day.
This model represents a typical stone built chapel without tower or spire, of a style commonly seen since the Danish Invasion era, and also found in former British colonies, both during the Age of Exploration and during the "Height of Empire" period.
* For Feudal & Medieval scenarios, it would be a centre-piece building in small towns and villages, or an out of town monastery's chapel.
* For Age of Exploration / Pirate scenarios, use it as centre-piece for villages and harbour-side squares.
* For Jacobite & 20th Century scenarios, it makes an excellent general purpose village church.
* For British Colonial theatres, use it as a secondary church within towns and villages.
It has been designed to remain reasonably generic so that it can be used for a wide range of periods and theatres

The model has been designed for modellers to use their imagination, and modify to create variety.
Example projects could be -
* Provide the model with a walled base and "churchyard".
* Build up a foundation platform including steps to the entrance.
* Add carvings and statues (gargoyles) on the walls.
and many other personalised modifications that would allow more than one of these to appear different to each other, creating variety on the table top.
Painting the model in a grey "stone" finish makes it suitable for mountainous areas and NW Europe (e.g. Scotland).
Painting it in sandy "adobe" finish converts it to sandstone for lowland areas.
This photo shows the unbased style of the unpainted model supplied. Xyston 18mm (1:100) hoplite used for scale (not included). |
